Broderyck Turned Three!!!

Broderyck turned three on August 16.

For his birthday I whipped out some Woopie Pies from the Vegan Junkfood Cookbook (www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1440528977)
by Lane Gold (instagram @lane_gold)
(it's an amazing book if you don't have it, you should!)

I made both the chocolate mint and the red velvet. Good thing I sent Cass in for this picture or else I would have been photo less. The Chocolate Mint ones were basically gone before I even got to eat one. Mind you I made like 40 pies total, seems as though everyone had at least two!!

Our family are the only vegans so it was nice to get a bunch of compliments about the dessert, no one really thought about them being "vegan" they just thought about the deliciousness.

I made one giant one for Brody to use as his candle holding personal cake.
Needless to say.....he loved it.

Only a month and a half late, but we went on a vacation!!!

We went on our very first family vacation in July, we had the opportunity to attend the San Diego Comic Con and boy were we excited!!

We had so much fun at the convention, four nerd filled days go by super fast! We attended panels, met Kevin Eastman (creator of the Ninja Turtles if you didn't already know), sat four rows behind Bill Nye the Science Guy. Brody is even on a couple blogs about cosplay for wearing his awesome Batman costume.

Besides all of the amazing Comic Con activities we were super excited about the food, California seems to have a much better selection of vegan food than Utah!!

Native Foods was the first place we tried, this was a great experience, except for the ornery little boy we had with us.
Brody ordered the mac and cheese with broccoli, Cass ordered nachos
and I had to have the meatball sub!
The staff was super nice and one of the waiters asked me about being vegan and being from Utah, for some reason it seems very strange to people that with the culture in Utah being the way it is that one can successfully be a vegan-it's tough sometimes but definitely possible.
One of the waiters even suggested dessert: Strawberry Shortcake Parfait
The next place we tried during our adventure (and ate there like four times during our trip) was Evolution Fast Food. Vegan Fast Food complete with a drive through that was only like 10 minutes away from downtown San Diego....how could we say no.
A couple of the amazing things on the menu included chili cheese fries, bacon cheese burgers, shakes (chocolate, strawberry and vanilla), chicken tenders...just amazing.
There was also an awesome robot that hung out in the hallway between the restaurant and the outdoor seating

The last place we went (way out of our way to go) to was Doomies. We heard amazing things and didn't know when the next time we'd be in California would be. So we drove an hour out of our way to LA and boy was it worth it!!!

First of all the staff is super nice and the menu is amazing, we could hardly decide what we wanted to eat. Everything looked so amazing. I really liked Doomies because it's like a regular restaraunt. It's vegan but they serve comfort food, things normally not seen in the vegan world and they have soda. Real soda. For some reason this always makes me feel a little better. haha. Like an equal to the non vegans.
Jalapeño Poppers!!! It's been YEARS since I've had jalapeño poppers and these were so amazing. Dipped in ranch....mmmmm.
For the main courses we chose:
Top Left, Brody: Chicken Tenders
Bottom Left, Cass: Chicken Alfredo with Garlic Bread
Right, Kylie: Pulled pork sandwich, macaroni and cheese and french fries

If you ever get the chance to go to any of these places while in California you MUST go.
